We've requested a formal analysis from the California Cancer Registry

In May 2026, a group of Ladera Ranch parents and residents submitted a formal request to the California Cancer Registry, asking the state to analyze self-reported cancer cases in our community. That analysis is still pending, and we will share the results here as soon as we have them, whatever they show.

We want to be clear about what this request is and isn’t. It is a reasonable step toward getting real data instead of relying on word of mouth. It is not a claim that a cancer cluster exists. No cancer cluster has been officially determined in Ladera Ranch. We do not know what caused these cancers, and we do not yet have confirmation that cancer rates here are higher than the rest of California. Formal cancer cluster findings are rare, even in communities that pursue them for years.

Alongside the registry request, we’ve also filed public records requests with LARMAC and the Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) to understand what pesticide, herbicide, and rodenticide products have been applied in common areas and at school sites, and when. That’s a separate, practical question from what caused any individual case, and one we can actually get records on while the registry analysis proceeds.
